Bio

Ana Black is an internationally exhibited and published interdisciplinary artist whose work explores performance, place, memory and displacement. Her practice centers on Photography, Video, New Media, Painting, Installation and Performance Art.

Ana Black received a BA in Art History from The University of British Columbia and a Certificate de Scolarite from the École Nationale Supérieure Des Beaux-arts, Paris, (now the Beaux-Arts de Paris). While in Paris, she apprenticed with renowned performance artist Marina Abramović. In 2004, she received an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, (RISD) with highest honors and the TC Colley Award for Excellence. She also holds a Collegiate Teaching Certificate from Brown University. Black is a former fellow of the Photography Institute at Columbia University, New York.

For over twenty five years, Ana Black has taught university students from several respected art programs including: RISD, The University of British Columbia, Emily Carr University, Brown, KPU and others. Ana Black has been awarded numerous scholarships, fellowships, awards and grants, including a VADA Award from the Vancouver Foundation, via the Contemporary Art Gallery and funding from the BC Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. Her work is in various collections and has been archived at the RISD Museum and the Getty Research Institute, The Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
